Botany : How Do I Keep A Christmas Tree Living
Ok here we go..... I bought a potted living spruce tree for a outside Christmas tree. However i have discovered it has very little roots, and this is not being helped by the high winds which are disturbing the roots and making it blow over and out of the pot! So i have tied it up from all sides in the hope that will support it. Any tips on how to keep it alive and how to encourage more root growth? Ok just to verify this is NOT a cut tree but a rooted tree. Also it has been repotted into a very large pot, and is staying outdoors. it has had a a good soaking and feed of very good fertiliser ~~~ Scarlet ~~~

Botany : Why Do Plants Use Chlorophyll For Energy Production When A Black Chemical Would Be More Efficient
Doesn't the fact chlorophyll reflects green light make it less efficient at absorbing energy than a darker chemical? Plants seem to be green the world over, regardless of the amount of sunlight available - why aren't they shades of grey? (. lighter in regions where there is 'too much' light, and darker in regions where there is less light available) ~~~ rhinowump ~~~

Botany : How Do You Propagate Bamboo With Tissue Culture Sterile Solutions What Auxins Are Best
Some references suggest several cytokinins and agar. I have IBA from Rootone powder I can get agar - but I'm wondering from where I can order what's best for propagating bamboo - esp. Muso variety which is 4 inch diameter when mature tolerates minus 10 degree temperatures - and slow to propagate by divisions. I can get samples from local bamboo grove. I've never seen how to collect the growing tissue from internodes or branches. I'm also trying to learn how to propagate Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadiensis) which doesn't produce many seeds is slow to propagate by divisions. Its' mature roots have value for organic cattle feeds and for natural dye uses. I think I can get growing plants this year and seeds (maybe next season). I sure would like to find a good Tissue Culture bibliography relevant to these species. Thanks very much for your suggestions. ~~~ editable7 ~~~

Botany : How Would The Researcher Apply The Scientific Method To This Problem
Consider the following hypothetical problem: An agricultural researcher is attempting to produce a variety of corn that will produce 3-5 ears of corn per corn stalk. For this to occur, the researcher knows that the corn will only germinate in a soil composition that will absorb and hold a maximum amount of water. Because of other factors, the researcher is limited to using sand and peat moss. The researcher needs to know the ratio (the amount of each soil type) that will produce these conditions. ~~~ Kyleigh G ~~~
