Adoption : Our Daughter Went To College And We Have 5 Year Old Twins How Stressful Would It Be To Adopt A Preteen
Instead of donating money to childrens orginizations that I don't see the effect of I would like to adopt another child. We have a wonderful family and home but there is a lot of stress with the twin boys and I wouldn't want any more. I don't want to be selfish but if we could provide a loving family and home for someone who had the ability to bond and help us with out boys I think my life might be easier and more fullfilling. Thanks ~~~ Brady Howard ~~~

Bad idea. You shouldn't adopt someone with the idea of having them "help" because they may have issues of their own. Tobit's right,it sounds like you're looking for a babysitter more than wanting to improve some poor kid's life. The twins are your responsibility.

Answer 1Adopt a kid! If you can at all afford it, adopt. Or even foster parent. I can promise you that if you do decide to take in another kid, you'll find ways to deal with the stress.
Answer 2"And help us out with the boys" Be sure to include that on the application. I hope they show you the door and refer you to a good babysitting service.
Answer 3Wouldn't it be cheaper to just hire a babysitter?

Answer 8Well, if you could only get a boy, maybe he could help with yard work.
Answer 9It can be very stressful. I had some friends that adopted teenagers and ended up divorced and the kids went back to the agency. I would consider adopting a younger child.
Answer 10Haha I like your answer Sunny, I'd rather hang out with people who have a sense of humor than boring old dish rags like Jane. As for the asker, you want to adopt a teenage girl to help you with the boys and make your life easier? Just how would your life be easier? Do you want a full time babysitter, or someone to do the dishes, or what exactly is "make my life easier" all about? Here's an idea...get a dog. The kids will love it and you can even make them clean up the poop. (you know, so your life will be "easier") And if you go to the shelter, it's practically free!!!
Answer 11Have you thought about doing some mentoring for girls around that age (or boys even) so that you could help out a child and really make a difference without adopting that child into your family? Or you could take your boys to do volunteer work on weekends at places like the Salvation Army or do respite care for foster children. Another idea would be to have your boys help you pick a sponsor child overseas (on in the US!) and they can draw pictures and write him/her letters and know they are helping someone have a better life. There are many ways to help other children have a better life without adopting them. Adopting out of birth order, while sometimes it does work, many times it does not. There is a good chance you would be adding to the stress and work load of running your family instead of relieving it. Not to mention that I agree with everyone else who suggested a baby sitter or au pair to help you with the boys, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't mean it how it sounded.
Answer 12I think its good because you are adopting a child that doesn't have a family and don't know what a family is like so it would be benefiting the both of you
