Best Answer To Environment Question

If the sunlight were blocked for a very long time (longer than a year), which I assume is what you're asking, you would not be able to grow crops outdoors. It is not possible without the sun. The only alternative would be to grow them hydroponically indoors with artificial light, in vast underground "farms". Above ground, the temperatures would be too cold to grow crops. These undergound farms could be constructed, but it would take years, and could not be accomplished after a catastrophic event. They would have to be constructed beforehand as a preparatory measure.

i was brought up on a farm in Ireland and i really dont care what happens to farmers and their land!!

Answer 6

According to the most recent evidence there was a major volcanic eruption in Asia about 70,000 years ago. Conditions became so poor that all but about 1-2,000 humans were left on the whole planet. We came a breath away from becoming extinct. If there were a major volcanic or meteor event our chances would become very poor. I know that in several places around the earth there are arks being set up in case of this. These arks contain viable seeds from all our major food grains etc. The problem is ........look around after a major disaster, what happens? People stand around and mope until someone comes to save them, or they prey off of one another until rescued..After a major natural disaster and I'm talking 1-3 billion dead at once or in days, there will be NO rescue and NO hope of relief. The arks I spoke of will no doubt survive, but how do people whose idea of a hunt is a quest for a burger going to survive something that in the context of a single life or many generations is unending? My advice in a situation like this is learn how to garden, learn how to track, go hiking in the mountains, snorkel in the ocean, in other words live a full life, learn lots and be a whole person. If you spend your life worrying about "what ifs" you'll miss out on that most precious gift........Life itself.

Answer 7

If a volcano erupted it would contaminate farmland so it wouldn't really matter about there being no light. If an asteroid blocked out the sunlight for long enough to stop crops growing we'd all be dead anyway.

Answer 8

Volcanic ash is the best sort of soil to grow anything in. I suppose you'd have to wait until you had sunlight again, but then you could make up for it by having extremely well fertilized earth. I have not heard that a meteorite would do the same, so I guess you are just stuck with a big hole you can charge tourists to come and see. Plants will try to live in any conditions. Plant, water, shine a flashlight - whatever we can think of. But they are very tenacious, and will fight through almost anything to live (including Ms BLACKTHUMB here.

Your Guide To Successful Forex Trading

Small time speculators and investors weren't allowed to try their hand at investing in foreign exchange (or Forex - which is trading foreign currencies).

Because the minimum transaction sizes and strict financial requirements were so steep, Forex trading was mostly left to banks and major currency dealers ... who were the only ones who could take advantage of the incredible liquidity and strong trending nature of Forex trading.

Currency trading is always considered a bull market. Why? Because the currencies always trade against one another. If one currency isn't doing as well, that means another currency is doing that much better.

In the Forex market, there is always a bull market trading opportunity for the smart trader. Grab your copy of Your Guide To Successful Forex Trading.
