Beer Wine Spirits : How Many Servings Of Alcohol Are In A Bottle Of Wine
So I'm just getting into this whole wine thing, and I want to make sure that I don't drink too much to drive. So if someone with a bit more experience/math skill can help me: How many servings of alcohol (according to the 1 beer=1 shot=1 glass of wine=1 serving of alcohol) are in a bottle of wine? Also, how much is an 8 oz glass of wine? Is that a typical glass filled to the brim or what? Thanks in advance! ~~~ Peter H ~~~
Best Answer To Beer Wine Spirits Question
Wine served in the US is typically 11-14%, let's say on average 12% (note that 12% could actually mean +/-% around that range easily). The typical wine bottle is ounces (750ml). So keep in mind 40% for hard alcohol:12%wine:5% beer Now as for volumes, a legal US shot glass is ounces, a can of beer is 12 ounces, and a wine glass is 5 ounces. These have exactly the same alcohol content. That gives about 5 five ounce glasses of wine per bottle (but only eight ounce glasses of wine per bottle). So a bottle is the equivalent of about five cans of beer or give shots. (/publications/) But your 8 ounce glass of wine is the equivalent of 1+(2/3) cans of beer or shots. Keep in mind that many restaurants will serve you more wine than 5ounces - as you mention 8 ounce servings are not uncommon. So if you order by the glass in a restaurant you have a right to ask for the legal serving, and if the glass is filled to the brim it most certainly is more than 5 ounces. The smallest wine glasses are usually about 9 ounces capacity and are typically more like 12 ounces (/food/glasses_). So maybe you should judge whether the glass is half full or empty.
