Cats : How Do I Tell If My Cat Is A Tabby Or Not
I think I heard, his father is a tabby, but I forget now. How do I tell, if he's a tabby. He's orange and white by the way. ~~~ Missy ~~~
Best Answer To Cats Question
Tabby is a coat pattern--it's stripes on a solid color. Bicolor is when the cat has blobs of one color on white, or is mostly one color with white on the chest and sometimes belly. Calico is large patches of black and orange on a white background. Tortoishell is a black cat with smears of orange and cream. Yours is a tabby if he's got stripes. If he's just orange and white, he's a bi-color.

Answer 2Here's a description. "Orange and white" is generally thought of as "ginger tabby".
Answer 3Tabby is more of a color than a type of cat. We generally call domestic short hairs tabbies because that's a common color they occur in but tabby coloring occurs in many pure breeds as well including Maine Coons. There are various colors of tabby including gray, brown, orange, etc. Those are the more common names, breeders typically have a more specific name for each color and pattern. Answer 4Simple. If he has stripes, he's a tabby.
Answer 5AS long as he has stripes somewhere he is a tabby. If the orange sections are orange w/ reddish orange stripes, then he is a red tabby. If the orange parts are yellowish w/ pale orange stripes, then he is an orange tabby. Here are some red tabby pics: /?navigationSubType=itemdetailsitemID=22987008 /gifs/ And some orange tabby pics: /Images/cats/ /animal_kingdom/animal_images/Cat_orange_tabby_ginger_tom_ /Kittens/OrangeTabby_ Tabby is just a coat pattern, not a breed. I have a cat who is a brown marble tabby. The cat I believe to be her father was a silver classic tabby and her mother was black. Here is her pic: /RecipePhoto/2/57 Also, depending on how the stripes are, he may be a ticked (broken stripes), mackerel (swirled), marble (swirled), classic (more straight), patched (tabby stripes w/ calico markings - these are usually girls) or spotted tabby. Answer 6Tabby isn't a bread, it's a marking pattern. tabby+catgbv=2
Answer 7"Scratch a cat and you will find a tabby" - that's the origin of all our cats. I had a cat who was orange and white - the stripes were there and so faint as to be very hard to discern. I have an orange and white tabby too and he is visibly a striped cat.
Answer 8Then he's not tabby is he, he's ginger and white. I suppose you could call him ginger tabby and white if he has stripes in the ginger - that's what tabby means; striped. It's not a breed. Chalice
Answer 9does your cat have an "M" on his forehead. that is a tabby trait.
