Answer 9Providing the voice for a character (like in an anime or a movie), is called voice acting. You can also say it's doing voice overs or dubbing, but the actual profession is known as being a Voice Actor (or Actress or Artist). In Japan the profession is known as Seiyuu. Many voice actors have websites available, and if you read all their interviews they all agree that voice acting is like regular acting - to give a character its voice you have to know how to breathe a soul into it. So many voice actors recommend taking acting lessons or courses to prepare for a career in voice acting. The companies that hire Voice Actors for english language versions of most anime are dubbing studios like The Ocean Group, located in Vancouver. ADV does dubbing in Texas, and there are other studios located in California. Still, none I know of are in Australia. Film companies, TV companies, and video game companies all need people to provide voice work. I'm sure there are film/movie/etc companies in Australia. You can also check out your local radio stations to see if they're hiring. If they aren't hiring, you can ask if they have internships or mentorship programs. You may have to start out doing radio commercials or small parts, but don't be discouraged. It's a tough business to get into. Before you try to get a job as a voice actor, it would be a good idea to have a resume and a demo reel made. A demo should showcase your talent and voice abilities. It should be fun to listen to. If you enjoy hearing your different voices over and over again, the people considering you for work should too. To make a demo reel you could just tape record yourself. But having an electronic version can be very useful. If you're good with computers, and have a microphone for your computer, download the trial version of Adobe Audition from . It's a very good program (but a bit challenging to use) that will let you merge lots of sound files together, which should make the process of recording and putting it all together much easier and professional looking. Once you have an electronic version of your demo reel, you can make a website and post that with your resume and e-mail address online. You can give out that website to all your potential employers. You can also try websites like these to find work and more advice: /adventures_in_voice_acting Hopefully all this has been helpful. Good luck and best wishes with your voice acting!
