Is there a way to maintain full connectivity in an OSPF network when a router is down? HSRP will required around 15 sec of downtime (or loss of connectivity)... Any suggestion? ~~~ gamermic ~~~

As you are aware, with HSRP or VRRP, routers are in a "pool". When one fails, a backup takes over. However, there is a time delay between the failure and the failure detection. This delay is determined by the amount of time between the exchange of "heartbeat" or keep-alive messages between the routers in the pool. During this delay, packets are dropped. The dropped packets will be detected by the receiver and the receiver will request retransmission. A way around this is to send packets via two paths and let the receiver discard the duplicates. There are some recent articles in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journals on this approach. I've listed two in "source(s)". I might be wrong, but I don't think anyone has a working product based on this approach.
