I would like to tell her I notice and am happy for her (especially if she seems comfortable with it), and hope for her sake and the babies that all goes well. That's all. ~~~ Paul G ~~~

Best Answer To Etiquette Question

You have to be very careful with this one, she could just be fat or had a baby and just hasn't lost the weight , you have to know for sure before you express good wishes?"With that said....and if you know for sure, you could say something like" You look great! When are you due?"and after she answers your question you can tell her how happy you are for her and pass on your good wishes for her and the baby.

All Answers To Etiquette Questions

Answer 1

Unless you know her, DON'T do it. Some people look pregnant when they are not, and sometimes ladies will still look pregnant after they have the baby, and can be very sensitive about that. It's best not to bring it up unless you know for sure

Answer 2

Unless she is very obviously pregnant, don't say anything! Some women just LOOK pregnant, and if she is one of them you'll regret saying anything to her. If she does look very obviously pregnant, you could always just start by asking if she knows whether its a boy or girl. If she answers without acting offended or hesitant, give congratulations. If she does act offended or changes the subject, just let it go.

Answer 3

Yea not a good idea to bring up the subject I once told a lady congratulations and when was she due she wasn't pregnant I wanted to dig a hole and hide I felt very stupid so now I don't say anything even if someone looks like their ready to pop. Now if she is wearing a shirt saying something about the baby then you can ask when are you due or do you know what your having then after that say good luck congratulations I wish you and your baby the best.

Answer 4

I would simply congratulate the person. I don't think you want to mention or go into the whole "hope everything goes okay" thing because a pregnant woman has enough worries and anxities as it is. Simply congratualte and wish her well.

Answer 5

You should never refer to a pregnant woman's condition...it is rude and an invasion of her privacy.

Answer 6

You have to be very careful with this one, she could just be fat or had a baby and just hasn't lost the weight , you have to know for sure before you express good wishes?"With that said....and if you know for sure, you could say something like" You look great! Answer 7

Say EXACTLY what you just wrote! I was in the SAME situation. I'm a Teacher, and there was another Teacher who was the biggest jerk at the school. No matter how many times I would smile and say 'Hello!!", she refused to speak, or even ackoweldge me. She'd just turn her head and walk the other way--in a blatant, very rude manner..... .WELL, turns out that this year, she got pregnant--and when she told everyone--I did approach her--say "Congratulations; thats great! That's exciting and I'm happy for you!"--and that was it. To my surprise--she actually smiled and said "Thank You"... SO--you should so the same, congrtaulate her, and move on. Its just showing basic human decency to wish her and the baby well. EDIT----If she has NOT told everyone that she is pregnant--then you should NOT mention anything to her. Trust me, many women have fibroid tumors that make them LOOK pregnant but they arent. You will be very embarrassed if you say anything. I did that 2 times, and I was WRONG. I really thought the women were pregnant. One woman I know literally looks like 9 months pregnant like there is a basketball in her stomach---and when I asked her when the baby was due she said "I'm not pregnant". I think she has a large tumor, like the ones you see on talk shows.

Answer 8

If you KNOW for a fact that she IS pregnant you can say congratulations. If you are just assuming she is pregnant you shouldn't say anything because she may not be pregnant.

Answer 9

to be on the safe side, it's best not to say anything. They might not even be pregnant.........just fat.
