Answer 7Just don't feed them at all. Here's the safest procedure. Stop feeding about 3 days before departure. This is to clean out the fish's digestive systems. Just before leaving,do a nice 25% water change,clean the substrate as much as possible. Then go on vacation and don't worry,your fish will be fine. Clean water is much more important than food. I have had this method trigger spawning in some difficult species. Fish can (and in the wild), do go for long periods without food. Fish are not people,don't treat them as if they are. One of my Oscars went on a 6 month hunger strike and then resumed eating as if nothing unusual had happened. This method is much safer than food block(awful polluters),or "automatic feeders" (invitations to mechanical failure), and definitely safer than having a well meaning but inexperienced friend care for your pets. (They invariably over feed.)
Answer 8At the pet store, they have special Fish Feeders. Most of them are shaped like treasure chests. You drop the Fish Feeder in the tank right before you leave and every day it will release the amount of flakes needed for the fish. However, I don't know if they have any that will last for 2 weeks. If they don't have any that will work for 2 weeks, ask a friend or neighbor to come drop a feeder in after its all used up. If that wont work out, ask your local pet store if they know about a automatic fish feeder. They will help you out.
