The other day my goldfish pair bred in my 20 gallon tank and after a few days most of the eggs hatched. I've never had goldfish breed before and the pet store isn't much help, so how long does it take roughly for goldfish to grow into decent size where you can see their colour and what they will look like when adult fish? ~~~ Shivers ~~~

They will take about 6 to 9 weeks to be fairly independent. About 2-3 months to get to a decent size and about 6 months before they will show any colour. Goldfish fry are always blacky-brown in their first few months and then as they grow the colour starts! Thats if they dont get eaten by the fish in the tank first though! Might wanna seperate them until they are a couple of months old!

Answer 3Your fry will take atleast 6 months in your tank to grow to a decent size. As for color, a goldfish under 2 years will change and form into their colors They will be adults between 2-3 years and able to breed again Although the young fry may show some color, they won't complete their color until close to 2 years. At one inch they are classified as adults. However in a tank, they will grow at a much slower rate than in a pond.
