Answer 1If you want to see higher quality football, keep going west until you are out of "big" 10 country. Unfortunately the mid week games are played involving the Big East teams. Which wouldn't be playing between Illinois and Nevada.
Answer 2Well I really don't know where route 66 is but if your going out that way theres some games you want to check out. You would want to consider going to a USC game (University of Southern California). The best home games are sold out the only 2 left are Stanford and Washington State (not very good teams) but USC is the best. Another good place to check out would be Boise State in Idaho. They won't face anyone good, but they are a very good team and play on a field that is blue. They also have Ian Johnson, one of the best runningbacks in the league. The best game I could think of you would have to go a bit out of your way but it would be worth it. The Oklahoma Sooners at the Texas Longhorns, best rivalry in college football you would have a blast. There are no midweek games and idk if tix are still available. That game is Sat. OCt. 6th good luck!
Answer 3depending on how you get there University of Nebraska - Lincoln, NE (I-80) University of Missouri - Columbia, MO (I-70) Kansas State University - Manhattan, KS (I-70) just to name a few.
Answer 4Oklahoma University is about 20 miles south of Route 66 (just off of I-35) in Norman, Oklahoma. There will always be some people selling tickets outside the game, but 6 in one spot may be hard to find as the games are all sold out. Tulsa University might be a better bet as it is right off of Route 66, and tickets are easy to come by. Tulsa has great night life too! University of New Mexico in Albuquerque might be an option also as would Northern Arizona in Flagstaff.
Answer 5If its a party you are looking for, then your best bet is definitely the Texas-OU game in Dallas on Oct. 6. The city parties all weekend and its during the Texas State Fair, which is the largest in America. The problem with the game is that it is sold out and you would have to buy tickets from a scalper and I doubt you would find six tickets together. Route 66 will take you into Oklahoma City then you take I-35 south to Dallas. If you are able to get to that game you will have a guaranteed good time. Gatorfan is right, it's the biggest rivalry in college football and you won't believe the intensity and excitement. Enjoy your trip, it sounds like a good one.
Answer 6you're going the wrong direction for drinking and partying like Irish soccer games....you have to go South and East and check out some of the SEC schools to see drunken hooligans drink whisky ALL day and get wild and destructive like Irish soccer hooligans Baton Rouge, Louisiana Fayetteville, Arkansas Oxford, Mississippi Starkville, Mississippi Auburn, Alabama Tuscaloosa, Alabama Athens, Georgia Gainesville, Florida Columbia, South Carolina Knoxville, Tennessee Nashville, Tennessee Lexington, Kentucky Go to these places and then fly to Las Vegas
Answer 7Stop in at Lawrence, Kansas and catch K-State. It isn't too far out of the way. Continue on to Norman, Oklahoma and watch the Sooners. Swing West to Arizona and take I-89 down to Tempe and watch the Sun Devils. Take I-10 to San Diego to I-5 to Los Angeles and check out USC or UCLA. At mid week, you may be able to catch their scrimmages.
Answer 8University of Nebraska Lincoln is a great college atmosphere located off of I-80. If you can't find tickets online there are almost always folks selling tickets outside the stadium.
Answer 9IOwa, Nebraska are cool...if you take the Southern route then, OK.

Answer 11On 66 you go through Oklahoma City which is very close to the University of Oklahoma, in Norman. Oklahoma State is also close in Stillwater. They play Saturday games and a couple Friday ones. There are two good college football cities Lincoln, Nebraska - University of Nebraska and Boulder, Colorado - University of Colorado at Boulder. Both of these are on I-70 and are big schools with big football programs that love to tailgate. Neither of the teams have any Thursday (or any other midweek) games. They, however, do play each other in Boulder, CO on Friday, November 23. This would only work if you were willing to drive the fast way on Interstate 70. You can check on all of these games at and look up the locations of the colleges in correlation to route 66. good luck.
