Best Answer To Formula One Question
GP's are a prime event to hold in your country. Despite many people's opinions, its still regarded with huge kudos and esteem with advertisers, car companies and god knows how many other organisations. F1 still has a certain touch of glamour and Singapore, with the growing economy of China, Malaysia etc wisely thought, yep, we'll have a piece of the action. Also with it being a night race it will have an excellent selling point to punters allover the world and will HOPEFULLY be on a great track (more like Turkey, Less Like Bahrain please!) I wasn't in favour of it, but we have to try new things or F1 will get stale. Here's hoping its a success and there are no floodlight failures!

Answer 4F1 Gran Prix is one of those sports event that brings in a whole lot of revenue in tourism. Its better than Olympic because its held every year and tourist from around the world, especially Europeans will flock the country just to watch F1. Yes Singapore is competing with Malaysia in may aspects. Sometimes its healthy, sometimes it gets ugly. It has to be night race, otherwise it will be just another Monaco. Well, they wanted something special, something different from Malaysia and Australia. So, they make a night race. Its more for the "glamor", more than anything else. F1 is a very high profile sports. Million of dollars involved every year.
Answer 5Holding an F1 GP is a really big thing. It generates a lot of cash flow into the country and gives a kind of status. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and therefore a platform featuring the world's best drivers. So it's really an honour to hold a race with the best of the best in motorsport. It is not easy to have Bernie Ecclestone give a country a place on the F1 calendar as more and more countries are vying for a spot. This is because he wants F1 to be more global. So you have to have an edge over your competitors. In Singapore's case, Bernie wanted something different: A night race. They can give it, they got it. What'e more Bernie was not too happy about the state of Sepang International Circuit, venue of the Malaysian GP. He said that it's like a house that needs a paint job. I'm not sure of the exact quote. So there's some competition here. It could be healthy and help raise the bar, thus providing fans with better facilities, services and such.
Answer 6As others have said, it is huge for the country involved to stage a world event like F1 but to have the world 1st night event is just fantastic for Singapore. I love Singapore and I wish I could be there as it is going to be awesome. The revenue that F1 will bring Singapore will be two fold. You will have the die-hard F1 race fans that will spend up large then you will also have the partners of the fans that could not give a toss about the racing and will be down Chinatown, Little India, Sentosa Island or Orchard Rd (to name a few) spending up big time.
