How are you planning to propagate this tree? Because if you propagate peaches from seed they will not grow true to type and it is possible that the peach obtained off the tree could taste completely different to the peach you obtained the seed from. If you are growing the tree from a cutting from your friends tree you could expect it to flower and fruit within about 3 years, and some peaches/nectarines are self fruitful and don't require a pollinizer but it can increase the yield of fruit. However if you purchase a bare root plant from a nursery this summer you could expect fruit from it next summer, but a lot of trees purchased from nurseries in summer may already have fruit on them and i have purchased all my fruit trees for approximately $30-$40.
