Best Answer To Garden Landscape Question

I like roses, hydrangeas peonies. Added poppy, mums (fall bloom), hollyhock moon flower. Reseed annual marigold (especially near lettuce) plus dark purple and bright pink petunias. Order Hyberger or Gurney catalogs from websites. Or go to local 'do it yourself' shops for a book on Perennials. This way you know colors available, when how long bloom and if can be planted in your Zone. I have used my Perennial book for many years and created several creative areas around my house because of the book and my yard thoroughly drafted on graph paper that I keep with the book (plus one tag of each kind of planting and mark it onto my graphed paper).

There are many flowering shrubs that would add beauty to your new garden. Fall is also a good time to plant bare-root shrubs, but container-grown shrubs may be planted any time of the year, except when the ground is frozen. Hydrangea are a popular shrub, and are available in many bright colors. The Golden Chain Tree, which flowers in the spring, is a unique and beautiful shrub, as is the Japanese Red Quince, that flowers and produces fruit in the fall. The Hardy Crape Myrtle is another colorful shrub that flowers in midsummer. There are too many to mention and it all depend on your soil type and the amount of sunlight your garden receives. The best thing to do is every 6 weeks go to your local garden centre to see what is in flower. Choose something that you like then discuss your choice with a knowledgeable member of staff to ensure that it is suitable for the conditions your garden has. Most importantly check how big it will grow.
