Answer 2Actually Philippines is a very beautiful place and the people are friendly. But poverty and corruption are on the rampage. Arroyo is not fit to rule. Maybe someone like Marcos minus Imelda could be a better choice.

Was there last Sept and going back in Jan, I never had a problem with the Filipinos. Restore peace and order? Sounds like you approve of taking the freedom away from the people. Elected in the 60's, he retained power for over twenty years, and embezzled public money for his own gain. The economy sank, the Peso plunged by almost 400% in the last few years, the media was seized, and anyone outspoken enough to publicly question the status quo was exiled or quietly disappeared. Under that dictatorship, did we have peace and order? No, we had fear. Blind, unthinking fear. It took another generation to come of age and rise up, topple the dictatorship, and re-instate the democratic/presidential system. Filipinos now are just too wary/weary to consider a dictatorship, and will strive for democracy, which they equate with freedom.
