Home Schooling. Does Anyone Have Any Tips For Homeschooling Record Keeping.

I am a homeschooling mum in australia and i cant seem to make a hard and fast decision on what form of record keeping to use, each week i have a new idea of how i can keep things and then it takes me all weekend to change everything, does anyone have any tips on what they think is the best system to use? no , actually the local teachers know nothing about home schooling, all they know is how to stuff useless imformation down 30 kids throats without teaching them what they really need to get by in this world for your imformation crispy whatever your name is, my son was struggling with the work given to him at school because the teachers did not have the time to give him the attention he needed, since homeschooling with me for the past year he is now doing work that student 1-2 years older then him are doing in school.....My point....he is learning alot more than he ever has or could possibly learn should he attend an overpopulated, understaffed, uncaring, "school". This is not uncommon for homeschoolers so i suggest you get your facts straight before you go shooting your mouth off about something you know nothing about!! ~~~ mummy ~~~

Best Answer To Home Schooling Question

I know few people who stick to one type of record keeping throughout all their homeschooling. It changes as different needs and wants change. What you have to report or on what information you just want to keep for yourself will make a difference in how complicated you get. Ultimately, you need a system that works for you. Because what's best for you isn't necessarily best for the person next to you. Some links for you to check out: / /forms/planners/ And I have to agree with you--Mr. Z (formerly DouglasZ) does not know what he's talking about. The records a homeschooling parent has to keep or chooses to keep for homeschooling are often far more detailed than what a public school teacher does.

Answer 1

Try homeschool tracker. I use it and it works well. You can make it as easy and simple as you want or you can go all out and have very detailed precise records. It's on the computer and you can print out schedules in all types of ways, whatever suits your needs. I choose a separate daily schedule for each child, grouped by subject, including overdue work. They have a free one (that's the one I use) or a fancier one for a one time fee. I have a friend that has the paid one, but I've never seen the need for it. You can do EVERYTHING, including naming your school, printing report cards.....

Answer 3

Maybe you could assign this project to your students. They are not learning anything anyway.

Answer 4

Believe it or not, I used to go to the teacher supply store, and I would get a teacher planner I liked for my homeschool. What you look for is the weekly lesson calender style pages, but also extra pages where you can enter grades, extra page for books used, pages for notes, pages for grades...that type of thing. In the calender I would write what subjects they did that day, plus page numbers, plus if they had a quizz or test. (grades went in the back, book info would be in the front in the curriculum list) Then for each child you need to keep representative work for a yearly portfolio. This is something you would keep so that you can show what they did, how they did and it can help if they ever have to go to another school. This gives a "picture" of the child's aptitude and level. Seperately you want to have all your "legal" stuff. HSLDA membership information, local school info (scope and sequence guidelines), intent to homeschool letters or recommendation letter, test results for SAT or other proctored yearly examinations. Remeber to fill these as you would a form at any authority, full names, birthdates, address, attendance, progress, etc. This will guide you in your choice of curriculum as you may have gifted children, or you may need to emphasize a subject over the others. This is then the more "school-business" portion. So 3 things: 1. "legal" binder or folder 2. calendar/curriculum/grades record book 3. portfolio (samples of work)
