If you're on this list it's illegal (in the US) for businesses you don't have an association with to call you. . if you've ordered something from them, gave them your phone number, etc. they can still call you. And politicians exepted themselves from the law, so they can still call you. Charities are also exempted. It takes 31 days from when you register before it becomes illegal to call you. But I noticed a drop off after about 2 weeks. You can also ask callers "Please put me on your do not call list". Legally they're required to, though it's hard to prosecute.

What you need to do is record the conversation with you telling them to stop calling and then the phone call after you told them to stop. Answer 6well, first off you can tell them that you are not interested and take them off your list, and you still continue to receive calls from them, you can file a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. Also, I would go to the National Do Not Call Registry at and register your information at their site, and you number is supposed to be added to a directory of "banned" numbers that sales companies are not supposed to be to be called, and be fined if they do. However, it does not protect you from any sort of debt collection calls, but I have been on the list since 2004, and as far as I can tell it has at least cut the number of calls way down, so I am pretty confident that it is working the way it is supposed to. Anyway, the sign up is 100% free, so it's definitely worth signing up for. Of course, it may take a while for most places to receive an refreshed copy of the list, so you may need to have a little bit of patience before you begin to notice a drop in the number of calls you get, but once you sign up, you can just tell them that "I am sorry but I am now registered on the Do Not Call Registry so please have me removed from your ;, hopefully the fear of the fines they could face will motivate them to stop calling you.
