Maintenance Repairs : What Is The Best Way To Get A Grant From The Local Council For Repairs To A Period Property
I have a 1908 terraced house in Weston-super-Mare which has damp and roof problems. I am struggling to work out the solution to these and to afford to carry out the work. We usually do most of the work on the property ourselves. How much help are the Council likely to be with a contribution, whether monetary or advisory? ~~~ Helen B ~~~
Best Answer To Maintenance Repairs Question
Councils are generally up for keeping older properties in a good state, and will gladly contibute to improvements which would otherwise see the property fall into sad disrepair. If you dont get a quick response from your council, then contact your local councilor as they are good sorting things out (especially if they are not in government!!) then sit back and wait

Answer 34 bed look.... damp and roof problems are a feature in a 1908 house. my new built detached is just so characterless
Answer 4Probably depends if it's a listed building also on what grade of listing. I doubt they'd help if it wasn't listed. You'll have to ask them, have you checked out their website .uk/ If it is listed then from what I've heard on TV-renovation programmes, you have to use building materials which would have been used when the property was originally built so it can be much more expensive... I think this is the only reason grants are available for listed building maintenance.
Answer 5ask council you my be able to get a grant we did £10,000 this repaired our roof
