Mathematics : What Geometric Shapes Have A Small Surface Area And A Large Volume
If a sphere is the geometric shape with the smallest surface area and the largest volume, what geometric shape has the second smallest surface are and second largest volume? It's a complicated question but it needs to be a shape I could easily build. ~~~ thegeometrygirlwhoknowshow2own ~~~
Best Answer To Mathematics Question
For something to easily build, I'd go with the cube, unless I was allowed to make my own sphere-like shape. This can be done, approximately, by blowing up a round balloon, then covering it with paper mache. Carefully pop the balloon after the paper mache dries. A cube has the worst surface area to volume ratio of all the regular solids, except for the regular tetrahedron, but the other shapes will be hard to build. You could download a cut-out pattern for a solid made out of pentagons (a dodecahedron, looks like a soccer ball), but that would not be easy to build.

Answer 1If a sphere has the smallest surface area and the largest volume, I would guess that either a cylinder or cone would be second, more likely the cylinder.
Answer 2cube??

Answer 4There are five classic "regular solids". They are the tetrahedron: 4 triangles octahedron: 8 triangles icosahedron: 20 triangles cube: 6 squares dodecahedron: 12 pentagons lt;== the smallest surface area for a given volume.
