check this site for Australia Post prices: .au There is a postage calculator, and you can estimate weight etc and get a rough idea. with ebay, though, you're also looking at other costs like the packaging, etc, and without having the item in your hands it's hard to say exactly what it weighs. The best way to know the actual price is to ask the seller - it's not a good idea to make a guess and try to do it yourself. Plus there are options of sea mail, air mail, insurance etc. And yes, it may be an expensive lesson! I post things from Aus to the US all the time, and a lot of people are surprised at the cost (I think maybe they forget that it's half the world away!)
