Other Careers Employment. What Response Should I Give To A Company Whose Job I Turend Down Who Wrote Me An Unprofessional Response.

I was offered a job at a company, but I decided to turn it down. Three days after receiving the written offer, I wrote them a nice letter telling them that I decided not to take the position at this time. I got a nearly immediate response from the recruiter that they couldn't understand why I was not taking the position and that they had been very accomidating and I had waisted their and the company's time and that I had acted in a completely unprofessional manner and they and the client company would make sure I was put on their 'Do Not Hire' lists. I feel that the recruiter was not completely honest with the company and I would like to respond, but I am not sure that any type of response is prudent at this time. Has anyone ever had such a response when they declined a job and if so, what did you do? Just to clarify, the response I was planning was to clairfy the timeline and my concerns with the position (Total offered compensation was less than current total compensation and some start date concerns) and that would have been sent to both the company and the recruiter. I am always professional in situations like this, which is why I was shocked and uncertian in how to proceed. ~~~ Llamahope ~~~

DOn't stup to their level...

Answer 2

I'm really, really surprised to hear that something like this happened to you, and I'm wondering what you did that the recruiter found to be so unprofessional? Certainly when one interviews for a job and is offered a position it is within one's right to accept or not. Really, I'm stunned. In any event, you should not respond. I would, however, save this letter in case you ever hear from or about this recruiter in the future. My instinct is he is the one that is unprofessional, in addition to unethical and not too bright. Just forget about it and move on. You don't want to work for this company anyway, and I'm sure you never want to deal with the recruiter either.

Answer 3

Write directly to the company and apologize for the inconvenience that you have caused. Make sure that you also state the reason/s for declining their offer. I'm sure they will respect your decision and would not take this against you.

Answer 4

Whoa! Good thing you turn them down. Now you see what you may be up against if you had accepted the offer in the first place. If I were you, I am sure to be very upset. I'll be gloomy for the next day, and the next and the next......but I'll still do nothing. I'll ignore them totally.
