First off, be current on any and all info in the news, around town, in the media, etc. Look for the irony in things, stories, comments or anything. Look at everything in and about life from many different perspectives and capitolize on the humor in it. Once you get enough material then work on your presentation and delivery. If you are comfortable with that then next try it out in a club on open mike night. Good luck!

Invite all of your friends. Have your friends buy lots of drinks. This will make the club owner happy. When it's your turn get on stage and tell your jokes. Keep in mind it's harder to make complete strangers laugh than it is to make your friends or family laugh. Try to stay away from using foul language. Keep it clean. If you do well sign up and come back again next week. If you bomb sign up again and come back next week. To be a good stand up comedian takes a lot of stage time.
