A valid Photo will suffice for flights also (at least I know thats the case with Ryanair ) You do not need a passport to travel between the and Ireland. This is whats mentioned on For British and Irish citizens who are travelling on flights to/from the United Kingdom to/from the Republic of Ireland, a valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID. Passengers who are citizens of other countries travelling on these routes must present a valid passport (with visa if applicable) or a National Identity Card issued by the government of a European Economic Area (EEA) country You could travel to The North (there is no border controls and the likes of customs etc. are a thing of the past) and then to Galway however if using the train you would have to go from Belfast to Dublin then from Dublin to Galway, which seems like a lot of hassle, you could however get a bus from Belfast direct to Galway. However, I would advise that you phone or check out whatever airline you wish to use website as I'm sure a valid official photo will do. In regards to Ryanair check out Contary to what people may tell you you do NOT need a passport to travel from the to Ireland and Free travel DOES still exist, its in the pipeline to end at 2009 but as for now you'll be fine. Whatever way you decide to tavel have a great time Galway its an absolutely great city with loads of great pubs :-)

Answer 1Hello, If you are a UK citizen then you need some kind of photo id. A driving licence is good (I regularly travel to the UK from the Republic on a driving Licence.) If you are from any other country then you do need a full passport. Keith
Answer 2The drivers licence must be one of the new ones (the ones that have the photo on it)... I've never seen a border as such - we shop up in the north sometimes and just drive there without borders. Hopefully someone will be able to give you a better answer - sounds like you don't drive.
Answer 3You do need a passport if you are flying. Sorry.
Answer 4If you are flying then yes, you'll need a passport. If you take the ferry over though I'm pretty sure you just need some photo ID.
