If you have the skills, knowledge and talent but not the contacts or the CV, what is the best way of breaking into this area? (Assuming you can send people audio files of things you have composed orchestrated in the past for short films etc) ~~~ smiley ~~~

In the past when i've wanted help with career advice in music i've always turned to the musicians union. They helped me a lot when I was wanting to get into theatre music performance. Not to be negative, but it's extremely hard to get into a tv studio as an orchestrator alone. An orchestrator would only normally be called in if a composer of producer was struggling to write or arrange some ideas. I know one composer at ITV who essentially does ALL the music for the whole studio in Leeds. Every show! Thats 1 person for probably 30+ shows. And he's expected to compose, orchestrate, record, produce and mix. Oh and he plays most of the instruments! The best advice anyone could probably give you is to get a good quality degree from a university that can help you specifically down that path. I do know there are a few courses specifically designed for this. Hope that helps! And if you aren't already, sign up for the MU!
