Other Music : How Do You Tell The Difference Between Songs Written In A Major Key And Songs Written In Their Relative Minor
ie how do you tell the difference between a song written in the key of C Major and A Minor? or between a song written in the key of G Major and E Minor? And if it has both sad and happy feelings without changing key? Also, i meant just regular keys, not ones with dominant 7ths, and songs don't always start/end in their tonic - ie i've written a song that starts and ends on C# that's in the key of C Minor. ~~~ Hanii Puppy ~~~
Best Answer To Other Music Question
Most songs will begin and end on their tonic if there is no key change. Listen for the resolution in the music (V-I) this is the strongest motion in music and is usually easily distinguished from standard chord changes. in a major key this change is a dominant or major chord to major or major 7th, in a minor key the cange is minor to minor, in harmonic minor it is dominant to minor. 99% of music does begin and end on the tonic

Answer 2If you mean, how can you tell by reading the the sheet music, then: The relative minor (if harmonic) has a raised 7th. (ie, A minor has a G#) so you look for the G# ! Also, most melodies begin end on the tonic(first note of the scale used in the piece) so if in A minor, it would probably begin end on A.
