Other Social Science : Has The So Called Feminist Movement Engendered The Spread Of Misandry
You see it on TV, overhear it in conversation, and as a man it feels discriminatory. Sure times have changed since the 50's Leave it to Beaver days. Women are wonderfully out in the workplace sharing the wealth of America with careers and financial independence. There is an undecurrent of men as stupid bumbling idiots incapable of simple tasks. ~~~ Doug C ~~~
Best Answer To Other Social Science Question
If a man is incapable of doing a simple task, it's because he's incapable, not because he's a man. TV doesn't reflect reality. It just doesn't. We watch it when we want to get AWAY from reality. And I would bet that most of the corporate decisionmakers (sponsors or producers) who decide what's shown on TV are men. It's occurred to me that when TV shows depict men as incompetent fools, they're actually patronizing adult female viewers, throwing them a bone to make them feel better about their typically lower economic status. If I get that feeling when I watch a show, I stop watching it altogether. I may be wrong but that's what I think.

Answer 2I feel that more than ever woman are exploited and misrepresented. I think we have it to easy today, we don't have to fight for anything, it is just given. These morons in the girls gone wild and getting free bob jobs from a website see no harm. They are mindless drones who have no respect for themselves. They don't understand or care what past generations did for equal rights. It is a sad sign of the times. One woman, was shocked she didn't get a job with a respected company because she was in one of the GGW videos. What did think would happen? It is so sad.

Answer 4No, I don't believe so. Women now tend to believe that they are equal to men in every way. They don't feel as if they need to bow down to them or to always defer to them. Some men are threatened by this change of attitude. To me, it is refreshing. I enjoy a good discourse, an argument among equals, an assertion of equality. Women don't hate men. They just consider themselves equal to men and are now willing to assert that belief to anyone who cares to listen. However, I do agree that Hollywood has deemed it okay to portray men as incompetent caricatures of themselves. The Hollywood types should understand that they need to reflect society, rather than attempting to change it or portray it falsely.
Answer 5No misandry was created by patriarchy and male domination it does exist but what your seeing in the media is different. Feminism is political and social movement which has been inspired because of patriarchy and male domination. The "undercurrent" you are observing on the media is in fact simply a softened down version of gender roles. The image of men as bumbling stupid idiots usually accompanied by men as emotional domestic and social goddesses who fit more comfortably into the offices, coffee shops etc seen in many instances in TV. To use a extreme example cillit bang adds or any add for a cleaning product usually has a man who appears to have the cognitive abilities of squidward against a woman who is stable and adapted to this cleaning product. She also enjoys scrubbing gutters and toilets which is also a stereotype. This man is clearly lost in this world an needs to be sent back to the manual labour which men which is where these cavemen fit in in these gender roles.
