Which is the best place to stay in Switzerland as a tourist. This is keeping in mind location (from tourist attractions), cost of stay travel. I had Interlaken in mind due to it's central location. Is that a good idea? Any good hotels that you recommend in Interlaken? ~~~ Vivek B ~~~

Best Answer To Other Switzerland Question

Don't go to Interlaken. It's a boring little village. If you are looking for something central go to Lucerne. From there you are in Interlaken in notime if you wanna go there. It's cheaper than Zürich and you have a city to go out and a lake and many nice mountains nearby. Greetings from Switzerland

I'm going to Zürich and then taking a train 30 minutes to Bern. So you get the city life and the alps all in one trip.

I went to Switzeland visiting my son who was living in Bremgarten[ For those that don't know garten is garden . We went to Interlaken but only for the day it was very nice but sorry can't say much about it. Anyway Bremgarten was about 1 hour or less by train from Zurich and it was a super little town along side a river with lovely walks and you can get the train that stops in the middle of a forest for those that want to do a bit of walking. The town had lovely cobbled streets. interesting little shops and pubs where people sat out on the pavement enjoying their drink. I loved they have street markets on certain days. I don't think they are used to tourists there . I had to ask my way a couple of times and although they wanted to be helpful some children giggled and spoke a broken english never the less I got by quite good. They have some pub accomodation but not a lot there.

Interlaken is nice but expensive, it all depends of your budget! It depends as well how you are going to travel (with car, train or bus?). If you are by train or car and more independant with the transports, then I'll advice you to stay in Thun (near Interlaken) if you have a lower budget. If the budget doesn't matter... Interlaken is a nice place to stay! You might inform yourself from: that gives you information about Switzerland. The main area to visit in Switzerland are: Interlaken (take a tour to the Jungfrau), Montreux and the Leman Lake (Lake of Geneva), Zermatt (but if you saw Interlaken this is fine not to do both), La Gruyère in Fribourg (the village were they make the typical swiss cheese), Zürich and Lucern, Bodensee, Appenzell, St-Moritz, and of course the italian part: Ascona and Lugano. All those areas will give you a good idea of Swizterland. As well the train company has some special offers: ?module=travelsbbchfunc=searchSTSnewlang=eng for foreigner coming to visit Switzerland.... Good luck

Answer 5

Go to Bern, if you want centralized place and all the train connections.

Answer 6

I would recommend the Jungfrau region. I stayed there in a tiny little alpine village that was picture perfect. It even had a waterfall and a cable car that went all the way to the top of the Schilthorn. This region seemed very friendly and filled with alpine cows and classic swiss chalet-style houses. The food was also excellent; try rosti and other regional specialties. If you love to hike or just the mountains, then this is where you need to go.
