How much should you tip when you do curbside takeout at places like Outback or TGIFridays? Should you tip at all? Is it okay to give less than 15%? Do the curbside specialists get paid more than regular servers to cover tips they don't receive? ~~~ dukeofnewyork03 ~~~
Best Answer To Other Us Dining Out Question
Whenever doing curbside pick-up at Outback, I always give $1 or $2. It's an easy coupla bucks for just having to walk a bag of food 10-15 feet.

Answer 1We ordered Curbside from Ruby Tuesday's today and were wondering the same thing. I am going to watch this question and see what others put. By the way we tipped, but only $2. Tipping $21 on a $40 meal is ridiculous so I would never tip that much. Usually the person delivering the food to your car is the hostess who gets paid at least minimum wage for regular employees ($ or more in certain states). Yes, they probably have to share their tips, but they are making more than waitresses anyway. I could see tipping $21 for a curbside meal if it were a 5 star restaraunt, but that seems a little high. Another point is the fact that servers have to refill drinks, clean the table, and put up with the diner's crap. The person bringing food out to you makes one trip or two if paying with a credit card, and that is the end of their task.
Answer 2dukeofnewyork03, This is a great question Duke. Curbside takeout is much different than any other form of service. There is a new rule for curbside tipping. It's never 10%, 15%, or 20%. It's always exactly $21. Regardless of how much the bill is for. This ensures that you always know the exact amount to give. Keeps things very simple. Brockf12

Answer 4I think that it is important to tip at least 15% they work just like other people so they deserve a tip. and the curbside specialists get paid less then the regular servers because they don't get tips. the right thing to do is tip.
Answer 5brockf12 is spot on, it is in exactly $ regardless of the cost of food, it keeps things simple. This has spread to other areas as well such as doorman at a swank club, always $, and valet parking attendants should be told to "plant their peas in May" so they don't get confused with money. For a complete run down on how best to divest yourself of your money please take advantage of Drampor's free guide, which is available by direct email for exactly $ payable by pay pal.
Answer 6You should tip about 15%. I was a restaurant manager and my husband is a chef and believe me, the curbside employees do more than just walk the bag of food out to you. They may not have to refill your drinks throughout your entire dinner, but they actually get all of your food together and organized and packaged. They do a lot more work than you would think.
Answer 7I have to agree with cllnsjen. I think tipping a "standard" $21 is a little high. Usually when I order curbside it's just me eating because I have no one to go with me. My meal is usually less than or around $21 itself. I refuse to tip more than my meal cost in the first place. I understand these people work hard, but being a hostess can't be any harder than being a server. I was a waitress and put up with a lot of stuff so I do understand.
Answer 8to whoever said you should tip $21 for curbside take out or any food orders that is just ridiculus unless the order was well, over $100. gee!
