Performing Arts : Should I Play A Left Or Right Handed Guitar

Best Answer To Performing Arts Question
it depends what style you want to play; are you into rock, and the whole power chords style etc. or the opposite, flemenco style playing, hittng chords one string at a time. if flamenco, it would probly be better to go with a right hand guitar still, but if rock, probly a left handed. and on a different note, if you are going to have to learn alternate playing methods, playing a right handed would be better as there would be more teachers around and more help to get!! hope it helps =]

Answer 2One of the greatest guitarists that ever lived only had two fingers on his left hand : Django Reinhardt. Just something to think about. I would suggest though, that it might be a good idea for you to play left handed. That will leave all your fingers on the right hand for fretting the guitar. You can either use a plectrum with your left hand or pick the strings with your thumb and remaining two fingers. It will take a while to get used to , so be patient. What sort of music do you want to play ?
Answer 3Good question. It seems that you have a unique situation. I'm left handed and have always played right handed. Since my left hand is stronger and more co-ordinated than my right, it's easier for me to fret the neck with my left hand. If I were you I would probably try playing left handed so that my right hand is fretting the neck. There are a lot of things that would be really tough to reach on the fingerboard without your 1st and 4th fingers. The link below has some info on playing left handed. Good luck!
