Best Answer To Politics Question
This tragedy was not caused by Conservatives ignoring the problem, this was caused by the federal government ignoring the problem. I think we all need to wake up and start realizing EVERY issue that we ask our federal government to do is either ignored, put off for the "future", done with only regard to pay back a major campaign contributor or simply forgotten about. We need to downsize the federal government and put more power to each state. Left to the Feds the bridge will be fixed by 2010, left to the State of Minnesota with a GOP gov and the city of Minneapolis with a DFL mayor the bridge will take 16 months to build. Folks this isn't about either party, this is about the inability of the federal government to effectively do their jobs.

Answer 1So it was just Conservatives ignoring the problem? I think your argument is flawed.
Answer 2I can't really blame either party. Spending money on repairs is unpopular among people of both parties. Actually, its partly the fault of the voters. It appears that we just wait until the bridge falls or the levy fails before we do anything about it.
Answer 3Moron... MN is a predominantly Dem controled state...Just like Ray Nagin covering up the levee faults in NO.
Answer 4Conservatives aren't the only ones who have been ignoring investment in our infrastructure. And yes, the problem is bad. We're the richest country in the world. We shouldn't have bridges crumbling, or levees failing, to the extent that they've begun to do so. I think this is representative of a society in general that pursues the quick fix and the fast buck over a long-term investment in just doing a good job.
Answer 5The problem was discovered in 1990. So since 1990 you had democrats in control of Congress until 1995. A democrat president from 1993 to 2001. Then there was another democratic Congress starting this year. How much money has Minnesota made off their state's gas tax and the Federal gov't too? I know I pay about $.45/gal in tax at the pumps and that money is supposed to pay for road maintenance. This tragedy is because of 2 things, wasteful spending by the gov't and ignorance by the bureaucrats in charge.
Answer 6We would not be talking about this if it were not for a tragic failure of a single bridge and the loss of several people and children . We ignore the harm done around the world all the time to promote our military industrial complex .
Answer 7You simply can't make a "party line" declaration of blame on this one. The Minnesota bridge thing had identified defects in the 90's and remember that it was a Democratic President from January 1993 until January 2001.
Answer 8To blame conservative is more then a bit of a stretch. Lets hold all of the people in charge of the bridges responsible. From the law makers who are supposed to disperse moneys appropriately to inspectors and maintenance persons who kept the bridge open for public use. They all failed us.
Answer 9Last I checked, we are a blue state here in Minnesota. Take your biased agenda elsewhere.
Answer 10Were you this smart before the bridge collapsed? Can you point to where you issued the dire warning before-hand, or are you just another 20-20 hindsight genius? - Well, everybody ignored it, but only conservatives are to blame? If it was such a forseeable event, what about the bridge or highway administration in the state? Why weren't they screaming bloody-murder in the media BEFORE the collapse?

Answer 12It so easy for you to pass blame than actually deal with problems, isn't it?
