Are there some things that you have found to be particularly helpful with your Aspergers child? Could be as simple as food or as specific as a certain type of therapy. Information sharing with parents of these children is so helpful, so I thank you in advance for your help. ~~~ Nat ~~~
Best Answer To Special Education Question
I have aspergers myself. For starters, limit change in his personal space. If it is mandatory, then make the change gradual and with plenty of warning. Even a good change can be traumatic to someone with aspergers. Avoid foods containing aspartame. That would be most diet stuff except stuff made from splenda. Don't worry about glutten. Its only a problem for people with celiac disease and he would know that by now if he had it. Caffeine is helpful to a point, but harmful if it builds up. For episodes of violent thoughts or behaviors, use children's aspirin. That is real aspirin and not tylenol. Many times aspergers is comorbid with ADHD. If he has that too, then caffeine is a good way to control it. There are also meds for ADHD, but not for aspergers.

Answer 2I haven't done nearly as much as I should be in the way of therapies. It depends on what his individual problems are. My son has a whole lot of trouble with focus and hyperactivity. I think video games, music, and tea (the caffeine) seem to help some. It's kind of hit and miss though. I wish I had time to really map it out see if it really does make a difference. You can email me if you ever want to. Sounds like you're having a touch time at home right now.
Answer 3I am a teacher, not a parent, of an Asperger's child. We used a timer (silent, visual) from . This helped him know at a glance how much time he had for any given task. Otherwise, he would procrastinate and not get anything done.

Answer 5well i have it and i find that my symptoms (if that is what you want to call it) or asperger traits come out worse when I eat whole weat foods I get kind of spaced out also when I have the candy Gushers or any fruity snacks oh and let the child know well ahead of time when change is going to take place. Don't punnish him or her for "acting out" because of change. It is not something he or she can help. Maybe if it is something like moving to a new house. Make the child see the house a few times before actually moving in. keep things as consistant as you can. Hope that helps some
